Bitcoin is now in the news following a dramatic spike that momentarily brought the price beyond US$80,000. BTC is now trading in the US$78,000 to US$79,500 area as it seeks new momentum to determine its next move.

Bitcoin price behavior over the last few days has exhibited symptoms of slowing after a strong earlier gain. BTC briefly hit $80,000 before correcting and settling below that psychological threshold.

Crypto expert Michaël van de Poppe believes the current scenario lacks a clear directional trend. Nonetheless, he feels that Bitcoin current rising trend has not yet reached its conclusion.

"BTC isn't done with its upward trend yet. If it manages to go beyond US$79,500, I wouldn't be astonished if US$82,700 is also breached," stated Van de Poppe on Wednesday (August 26, 2026).

This suggests that a breakout over $79,500 might lead to the next resistance level at $82,700. If growth continues, Van de Poppe believes $90,000 may be a feasible next aim.

However, getting to such levels will not be simple. The chart shows $82,842 as a significant resistance level, with immediate support between $76,934 and the $75,779-$76,200 zone.

Liquidity builds up; BTC price may see wild swings

Liquidation data illustrates the market's generally flat status. According to Daan Crypto Trades, Bitcoin has been floating sideways for days after a huge push, with liquidity accumulating on both sides of the price.BTC has been trading sideways for the previous few days following a huge spike. "Liquidity is now beginning to build on both sides, particularly at the US$77,500 and US$80,000 levels," Daan said on X on Wednesday (August 26, 2026).

The Binance liquidation map shows the BTC price at around US$78,920, which falls between the two liquidity clusters. As the price approaches the range of US$80,000 to US$80,900, upward pressure builds.

Conversely, the $77,500 level has huge liquidity below the present price. This implies that Bitcoin may have a temporary sweep in either way before establishing a more solid trend.

Reclaiming the 200-Day MA opens the door for a pre-bull phase.

Beyond short-term volatility, the overall picture is beginning to change. Quinten Francois noted that Bitcoin has reclaimed the 200-day moving average (MA) after earlier trading in a negative regime.

According to a graphic released on Wednesday (August 26, 2026), Bitcoin is still in a bear market. However, the price has remained above the 200-day MA for four days, indicating a regime transition, which takes 14 consecutive daily closes.

In other words, Bitcoin has not yet officially reached the pre-bull phase, much alone the bull market. Nonetheless, effective maintenance of this level takes Bitcoin closer to confirming a significant structural change.

"BTC is approaching a threshold that may validate the pre-bull phase. "Every confirmed signal of a transition from a bear market to a pre-bull phase since 2015 has been followed by price increases over the next 12 months, with returns ranging from 37 percent to 492 percent," he said.

That data does not guaranty a recurrence of the previous trend. However, if Bitcoin can maintain the 200-day MA while also breaking over $79,500 and $82,700, the chances of a bullish scenario approaching $90,000 improve dramatically.
